"As all eyes are on this year's presidential election, my focus is closer to home. The policies set at the state and town level are what will most deeply impact my family and my neighbors. That's why I am thrilled to have Lonnie Poland as my representative in Montpelier.
The issues that truly affect our Milton community are Lonnie's legislative priorities: high quality public schools that all taxpayers can support; affordable housing; and the repair of a broken healthcare system that only serves the privileged. These are the issues that are most important to the most people, and that's what Lonnie will focus on.
The complexity of the society we live in is that two truths can exist at the same time. For example, we depend on high-quality, well funded public schools to nurture and educate our children. And, the primary funding mechanism for our education system, property taxes, have become untenable for many of us. The ability to address complex, multifaceted issues is the ongoing challenge facing our elected officials, and I believe Lonnie has what it takes to find the best solution that works for the most people.
Through the past few years, I've gotten to know Lonnie, as a client of her yoga classes, as a neighbor who benefits from her generosity and inclusion, and as a friend who relies on her steadfast, loyal support. I know her to be an open minded and curious person who will lead and represent Milton with dignity and a balanced approach. She knows that many of us are struggling to meet our basic needs and recognizes the urgent need for reform and change to our current system. She will look for actual solutions, not just "vote no" to other representatives' work.
Milton residents deserve balanced representation, and I'm looking forward to having my values represented in Montpelier."
